CV and EP curves with mel

I would like to create a ep curve with a script.

Now the mel command for a CV and an EP curve are the same... Both are

curve -p "x" "y" "z" ;

How would I tell maya that the points I feed in with "x,y,z" should be exactly on the curve... (-> an EP) curve and not just the possition of a CV (-> CV Curve)

has it something to do with another flag of the curve command?

create cv curve out of linear segments and then use fit bespline to make it cubic!
