Cv Snapping Is Buggered

If I goto Create > EP Curve tool (settings: degree: 1 Linear, Knot Spacing: Uniform )

and I click several points in the viewport and press ENTER to complete I get a nurbs curve and the script editor reports:

curve -d 1 -p -4 0 0 -p -3 0 1 -p -1 0 1 -p 1 0 -1 -p 3 0 -1 -p 4 0 0 -k 0 -k 1 -k 2 -k 3 -k 4 -k 5 ;

now if I select this curve and go into CV mode I can select any CVs and hold down C or V and I can move/snap the selected CV to anywhere on the curve or to any other visible CVs on the curve.

ok.. so far this is normal and we're good...

now if I copy the reported curve line (see above) and paste it into the script editor and execute it Maya builds another curve supposedly, exactly the same as the original one.

but now, if I try and vertex snap (key V) one of the CVs on the new curve IT WILL NOT SNAP TO ANY OF ITS OWN CVS. and my original curve's CVs don't snap to the CVs of this new MEL curve either..!!

it seems curves created manually with ctx tools are able to be CV snapped, but curves created by MEL cannot be CV snapped to..!?

what the hell gives..?!?!?!

:nathaN

chek that move tool is set to world (happens alot only World can snap to all points reliably all others might fail if space differs except in maya 7)! Also NURBS objects dont snap points UNLESS you turn points visible (polys allways snap no matter what).

So if you want to snap to another curvves cvs you need to either co into its componentr mode also OR use the display-> nurbs components cvs!

And no i cant replicate your problem! Snaps fine. Try again.

oh also keep your hhads up on the status line because v inverts the mode so if its on form gui v turns it off!

Joojaa, I know how to use Maya ffs... what I'm saying is I have TWO IDENTICAL curves side by side, one created by clicking, one created by the SAME MEL that the clicked version returned. One has snappable CVs, the other doesn't. It can't be anything to do with my tool settings or the status of snap because I'm working on both curves simultaneously and both are hilited so I can see every CV... what is different about the second curve..?!?

scratch this... I've just done some more testing and the problem seems to lie in the UNITS preference GOD I HATE THAT SETTING

If you change your default units from centimeters to meters CV snapping is SHAFTED on curves created by MEL..

STUPID STUPID STUPID MAYA.

(yes I KNOW changing the default units is BAD but I'm working on legacy data and they've already been using meters for years.. god damn..)

:nathaN

Yes well too bad. Thets a maya quirk and BUG.

I think the maya 101 never ever change defasult units should eb pasted on thet entry! I eman it WILL come to haunt people who do it sooner or later thats just the fact of life.
