Delete particle disk caches

I have accumulated quite a few particle hard disk caches as I've been going along here and I sometimes I can NOT delete them at all. Sharing violation. I have gone into the files dyn globals, made sure "use cache" is not checked, saved and still I cannot delete. (I've assumed as long as it thinks you can undo, it holds on to them) Sometimes I have re-written a new cache, saved and the old un-used cache cannot be deleted. Sometimes I can, sometimes I can't, there doesn't seem to be a specific set of rules. As you guys probably know, these caches can be huge, and I need to get rid of them! Right now I have 4 gigs of caches I don't need, don't seem to have any association with the files as I've checked "don't use cache". The files are closed. MEGA waste of space.

ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Often you can't delete caches with Maya running, because there is some type of "historical" connection. But if you're unable to delete the cache files when Maya is not running, then it sounds like an OS issue.

did you check your write (read/write/execute) permissions on the files and the folder? are you always logged in as the same user? sounds like a permission violation to me.

I think I found that historical connection. Seems that Maya holds on to the previous disk caches when you have use cache checked in dyn globals. It assumes you may want to choose among your caches I guess. I just unchecked this which was pointing to my 4th cache, saved, closed,(don't know absolutely if that's necessary)then deleting the 1st 3 caches was no problem.
