is there anyway of recording the desktop in windows at realtime speed.
i need to record a 3d program running to show a client, but my vid card doesnt have any TV/Video out capabilities and i was hopeing there might be some software that could just capture the display directly...kinda like pressing the print screen key repeatedly...VERY quickly!!
i remember ambient using something like this to do a timelapse vid of him modelling...could this do the trick
A scan converter takes the non-interlaced (S)VGA signal from your video card, and processes it into an interlaced NTSC signal (720x486) - which you can then display on a monitor and/or record to a VCR.
There are less expensive scan converters, but they tend break down at resolutions much above 1024x768. It get's imposibe to read the text in your dialogue boxes, menus, etc. once you play it back on a TV screen.................
There are sharware screen captures program that record at intervals the desktop. However they do tend to mess with the mouse a bit.. at least the one I tried awhile ago.
Unless you plan to sell training tapes I'd try the software or get a Avermedia Averkey300 scan convertor. As far as making the tiny menus items and the like readable it has a zoom in function.. if you are trying to make tutorials this would be helpful. You could run the composite or s-video signal to a vcr or even another computer with a capture card. I suppose some capture software allow timelapse capturing.
By the sound of what you said, this isn't for a big budget production job,... I'd say you're probably best buying a 'cheapy' card with video out and recording in real time,... to a VCR, or miniDV-Cam if available. The Cam will not degrade the output as much as a VHS VCR would, so allowing it to be used as a master for edit/offload to VHS
Can you name a video card for windows that has a composite out that is the desktop? The ones I'm familiar with don't run the desktop to the video out.
Having a card in this configuration would also mean that you'd have to work at 640x480 and you would also probably loose any OpenGL performance if it's a cheapy card.
thanks for all your help so far guys...but you kinda missed the point. i dont want to get any knew hardware and was hopeing for a quick software solution to capturing the desktop display to AVI or something. im not interested in trying to outut it to video, so the resolution isnt really an issue.
