Okay, clearly I don't know what I'm talking about. To tell the truth, I don't know that it's doing nothing, just not what I want. I don't get an error message, but when I go to rebind the geometry I DO get an error message saying the object is already skinned.
To "go to the bind pose", I assume you mean in the hypergraph or something? Because it's not showing in the outliner. Of course this is a dead giveaway to my newness to Maya...
