Development Setup

Hi all,

when I was scripting with mel I used to setup a button that sourced the script I was working on and executed the main procedure.

e.g.

CODE
source myFile.mel;
foo();

but if I try the same with a Python module this approach obviously does not work too well.

The first time I execute

CODE
import myFile
myFile.foo()

everything is fine. But if I make some changes to the code they are not taken into account, when calling the buttion a second time.

The problem persists even if I use

CODE
del myFile

and then reload it after I made some changes to to the modules code. PythonMaya will still executes the old code.

Do you have any suggestions how to set this up properly? Or an alternative way to develop Pythonscripts for Maya without pasting them to the Scripteditor everytime something changes.

Thanks in advance

you should eval the file!

Hello Jooja,

thanks for your help!

eval does not work with import. but you pointed me in the right direction.

execfile is the solution for my problems

Silvan

you could also make a shelf button that does the following.

[codebox]import myFile
reload(myFile)
myFile.foo()[/codebox]
