I just got into DGS materials , and when I drag the DGS material into the attribute editor , then when I go to render I got nothin but black, I followed everything right in the documentation , so what gives?? O by the way , how come theres nothing under photon emiter or geometry shader in the create render node section to? any help would be really apreceated thanks.
Hey there.
Chances are you haven't connected the DGS materials to any lights yet... thats usually the problem when renders are black.
Check out those links I gave in your "Lights/Caustics" post for an explination on how to connect lights to DGS shaders...
or, if you don't want to deal with manual connections and just want every light in your scene connected to every DGS shader in your scene, you can download a MEL script in the rendering/shading section of this site which does just that... the link is here:

I do recommend you search around this forum for DGS info, though, chances are the questions you have have already been addressed : )
As for why there are no photon emitter or geometry shaders, I don't really know... but... I do know that photon emitter shaders are fairly unnecessary.
They just let you have more fine control over photon emission to do specific things, BUT, you can generally get those effects anyway via the standard photon emission...
SO, as I said, by and large photon emission shaders are unnecessary : )
As for Geometry shaders, again, I dunno why they're not there... but I am sure one would be able to do some interesting things with them... if you find out, let me know ; )
Have fun DGSing! : )

thanks alot again , what would i do without you!?!? ![]()
heh, I appreciate the flattery, but I am sure you'd get by fine without me ; )
