Fix the system first! (tiough they suggset using defult driver versions because your not qualified try that anyway, you dont loose anything)
However some versions of the macos work a bit badly with maya read:
http://download.autodesk.com/us/maya/qualc...aya\_85\_osx.html
one notable thing is that mayas not qulaified to run on anything newer than 10.4.8 heres a quote on future comp:
QUOTE
Do not assume that newer versions of Mac OS X will be suitable for use with Maya.
So basically they tell you to use 10.4.8 or 10.4.7 , all in 10.4 work but those are the best but dont go down to 10.3.9. Mayas not a consumer product and as such its expected maya users can follow these instructions.
Same applies to maya 7.0 but even older os qual. So ods are it wont help. Note even maya 8005 int 10.5.X qualifed as far as i know
And this is in line with what you see on this forum, many complaint about maya and the newest os. (new mans change change means possibility to breakup)
PS: the versioning of macos is one of its worst qualities. While it works fine most of the time especially whan you jump over one secondary number you sometimes get problems. Most mac users wont notice it as they dont use hw so intensively tough. In general i find that maya gives the best performance on linux, by far. And next best on windooze, and because theres more good gfx cards to choose from. The myth that mac is problem free is greatly overstated, it just isnt true. Its like windows it works fine until it does not. Linux on the other hand works terribly untill you do something about it. ![]()
Anyway allays stay away form the bleeding edge of oses. this applies to all computers regradelsss of make and manufacture. (even mac im afraid)
