Distribute objects along a curve

Is there any way to distribute a certain amount of copy/instance of an object (NRUBS/poly) along a curve?

(e.g. distribute trees along the profile of a mountain)

Yes make a pth anim and make a animated snapshot.

But if i was you i would paint objects isntead with the shipped may aartisan script that comes with maya.

Create your curve, select the object you want to distribute along the curve (the tree) go to animate/Motion Paths/attach to motion path. You have created you animation (let's say over 200 frames) next go to animation/animated snapshot/option box/ select time slider adjust increments according to how many objects you want along that curve. Then hit "snapshot". As someone else mentioned you may just want to use paint effects brushes to do this.
