Hello,
I am very new to the boards, I did quite a bit of searching around looking for a clever solution to my problem.
My Goal:
I want to be able to stamp down a piece of geometry by just clicking in Maya.
What I mean by that is, I have made a bunch of 3d tiles for a game I am working on. The game play will be like mario, so i want to be able to select a ground tile for example. And then click, click, click, place 3 ground tiles along the plane. Then i want to be able to choose another tile like the question blocks, and then click click click place those down.
Ideas for reaching my goal:
I thought there were a few ways I might figure this out but so far have been stumped.
If i could write a mel that duplicate a specific piece of geometry, then i could make shelf buttons for each of my tiles. Then when i click the button it would create a duplicate (or instance) of that object.
The next step would be to somehow capture where my mouse clicks, and use that as the position to move the created object to.
Then the final step would be to recreate that action as many times as i clicked.
All of this as of yet is a mystery to me.
Any ideas??
