Duplicating Particles

Hey Everyone,

I'm wondering if its possible to duplicate a particle system as an instance and have it show up in the final render?

I've set up a scene in the following manner.

Creating
1. Particles->Create Emitter
2. Hit play until frame 80 (Just to see some particles)
4. Select particles
3. Change particle render type to Blobby Surface (s/w)

Duplicating
1. Edit->Duplicate Special (I'm using Maya 8.5) and Choose instance for duplicate options.
2. Translate duplicate particle system in the X direction 10

Rendering
This looks great in the viewport. I have a duplicate system. But, when I go to render, the duplicate system doesn't show up! Is there anyway to get around this?

Thanks!

Dont instance them

Is there really no other way to do this, no work around or setting that I can change to allow this?

The only reason I ask is because it works with instanced Geometry. If I create a sphere, then an instance, the instance will render out.

Thanks!

yes but a blobby surfavce is a implicit geometry theres no help in making it a instance it still uses as much memory and performance instanced
