Duplication problem! (URGENT)

Hello!

I create a model using couple Boolean->Union's and deleted history etc. so the object should be clear now, but whenever I duplicate it, it turns into something weird, I don't even know why the hell it happens, and whenever I rotate that duplicated object it scales and jurks.... Any suggestions? Im in the middle of a deadline for the showcase, and I just can't go any further.

You must have taken in some stray history somewhere. When I do it to 4 poly spheres the duplicate behaves fine. How many times did you do a booleans, and did you freeze it after every operation? What type of duplication are you using?

I do CTRL+D, but I discovered that if I do Duplication Tool that asks you where to put your duplicate object, it works fine

That is so weird.... I just created a new scene... created a cylinder, pressed CTL D and the new cylinder rotated an moved a bit, though I didn't even touched it

Ohh never mind.. I just went to Duplicating/Instansiating Tool Options And all the transforms have some weird numbers in them... don't know where they came from, but I set them to initial parameters and now everything is fine =)

I've had the same problem before.

Whenever you duplicate something with the Ctrl-D supra keys, and apply any SRT to it, if you Ctrl-D again, XSI remembers the last SRT modification and applies it to the newly created object. This is good if you want to create things with repetitive properties, like fence posts, but for some reason, it sometimes copies this information into the duplication properties page so that no matter what object you select from then on, it applies the same SRT modification to it.

It's either a bug or a button you press to activate it, im not sure but it happens.

yeah, that Ctrl+D is tricky. It took me awhile to stop using it after I switched from Maya. The safest bet is to use Ctrl+Alt+D. This will duplicate the object without any previous values.

hehe... welcome to the club IT seams like there are a lot of people switching from Maya to XSI these days.

I still strugle with modeling .. whatever I do I can't get as fast s with Maya. The only small thing I wish for is that if I was able to drag the manipulator tool as I would in Maya instead of guessing which mouse button responds to wich axis, which is pretty time consuming if you add all the times you move or rotate or scale something, and you are a new to XSI ... dude thats a really big time you wasted .. lol =)

It's easy to know wich axis the mouse buttons will transform on:
-For scaling and rotation...
left=x
middle=y
right=z
-In the case of translation, it is always the visible axises. It means that it won't transform on an axis that faces the camera in an ortho viewport. In the camera viewport, the defaults are MMB for Y and RMB for X.

Also, you can change the axis by double-clicking on a the transform arrows in the viewports:
left=X
middle=Y
right=Z

Once you get used to it it's really fast.
