DVI Connections

If a graphics card has one VGA out and one DVI out, can two CRT monitors be run off of this.

If so, is there and adapter that goes from DVI to VGA. Do I need a new driver for the "dual" support. Does this compromise performance?

Thanks
M

This depends on the card in question.. I know that some will not allow you to run a signal off both connectors at once and then even if you could it may only be the same signal split not a dual head like it sounds like you want.

Whatever the card is look at the manufacturers tech specs and see what it says.. If it does not say that it does this so don't assume it will.

I'm not sure if you can get a DVI to VGA connector

I've included a list of cards that do support dual monitors..

ELSA Synergy

Well, it looks like I'm leaning toward the Elsa Synergy III. This seems to be a pretty good card for the money. I found one on outpost.com for $399.00.

It says at the bottom "VGA/VGA operating parallel"

Is this a connector that goes from one VGA into a "split" configuration into two?

Thanks for your help!!

I found this as well....

http://www.montest.com/adapters.html

I guess it would work?

M

Connectors 1 x digital DVI-I monitor, 1-2 x analog monitor (D-shell, 15-pin) connectable using an adapter, DVI/VGA and VGA/VGA operated parallel

It seems to be saying that you can have two desktops if you connect a mon to the VGA connector and a second to the DVI connector with a DVItoVGA adaptor
