I'm currently studying 3D animation and I've found that my instructor knows very little after the most basic functions of Maya and I'm basically on my own now. For my animation, one of my characters is supposed to have a mane that looks vaguely like a mohawk. I had been hoping to use hair follicles in this creation process and create dynamic hair and let Maya do most of the work when it comes to animation and collision. Therein is the problem:
I cannot find the menu for creating this feature.
I'm using Maya 8.5 and both the Maya help section and the book that I am using describes hair follicle creation, but says that there is a "Hair" menu under the "Dynamics" drop-down. This is not the first time I'm encountering this, however, I do not see a "hair" option under this menu set. Does anyone know where to find this menu?
I've tried painting this on, but even though it renders fairly well, I don't quite understand the process of actually welding the paint effects to the model and getting it to animate along with the model, which is why I had been hoping to use the follicles.
(My teacher mentioned that I may need a plug-in. If that is the case, does anyone know where I can find something like that? I don't see one available in this site's plug-ins.)
