The Motherboard I'm looking at supports ECC ram but is it worth the extra 20$/stick to get it? I'm not into overclocking or anything like that..I just want something that will run well with 2 PIII 866's...
Thanks

unless you're got a server I don't think it'll help you at all. the extra pin on the ram is for error checking and people mostly use it in SERVERS. And well, that about as much aout it that I know. For general use , its probaly not worth the extra cash

some people say it actually runs slower then non ECC ram (which makes sense) since it has to take those extra steps for error checking id suggest not getting ECC ram unless your running a server
There is a slight performance hit for the error checking. This is why turning of ECC cache checking in your BIOS will speed up your computer a bit.
Only banks, etc. with mission critical accounting data usually use ECC.
