I'm new to Maya, and I am having a little trouble working out the relationships between surfaces and construction history.
When patch modeling an object using nurbs curves and then the square surface creation tool, can I then:
1. Edit the resulting shape by editing just the source curves? As an example, moving the source curves, or the control vertices of the source curves and having the shape generated by these curves follow these adjustments.
2. Can I rebuild the source curves, and have the shape generated by these curves rebuild as well?
With construction history turned on, I have no problem manipulating a revolved shape using the source curve, but have had no luck with the square surface tool. Does the square surface tool not have construction history? Please forgive me if I am missing something obvious, since I am new to the program, and there is an overwhelming amount of information to process.
I was also wondering if any of you really pro Maya users had any insight as to whether Maya might ever incorporate a Surface Continuity Manager like Softimage has. This seems like a great tool for organic nurbs patch modeling and animation.
Thanks, any information is greatly appreciated.
1) yes just make sure the intersections stay intact (there are atleast a few scripts to do this setup for you)
2) No not realy since rebuilding might break something easily (altough there was a script on a eariear thread on birails that might alleviate the problem abit, or alot depending). But it might work!
the squre will fail if the corves wont meet at the ends properly. Nothing wrong with its history. use intersection locking scripts. Same applies to boundary surfs.
