Jtk: I take your point about sticking to typical drivers, especially in weird hardware setups.
i-d: There are not many specific articles dealing with multimonitor openGl but there are some potential problems.
See the following from realtime soft : (I have no connection with them by the way, I had never heard of them when I selected my login.)

Also see Why is there no hardware accelerated OpenGL when running Windows 98, Windows
2000 and Windows ME in multiscreen?
The basic deal is, as far as I can tell, that in Win98/ME systems, hardware OpenGL doesn't work unless you turn off all but the primary display. On Win 2000, you should be able to leave the other displays on, but only expect hardware accelleration on the primary. The realtime soft article also says that geForce 3/geforce 2mx combos don't work at all, but this is specifically contradicted by both Elsa's techs and an earlier poster on this forum, as far as the DCC/511 combo goes. I have read a rumor somewhere that XP is supposed to fix this, but who knows.
Also, Elsa claims (A) that none of the problems exist using a twinhead mx board like a Synergy as the one and only board on the system and (
in Maya (using a DCC/511) you may get windows that become invisible when dragged from one monitor to another. This can (they say) be worked around by dragging the window part way across(leaving the cursor on the first monitor), and then grabbing part of the window on the new monitor and pulling it in the rest of the way. Wierd, huh?
This has kind of veered off subject (Elsa Gloria III vs. Elsa Gloria DCC) so maybe I'll start a new multimonitor thread, if no-one beats me to it.
