It is very easy to add functionality to Maya, but sometimes I want to go the other way and embed Maya in my application. This could streamline the process of making a level editor and other game development tools.
Does MLibrary cut it for you? I've only used it for simple command line apps, but I imagine it would allow you to access the Maya API in more complex applications as well.
My understanding was that MLibrary allowed you make API calls to Maya, but I don't think that you can bring up pieces of the Maya interface in your applications. Not sure, but I think that MLibrary is like using Maya in batch mode. Essentially I want to embed Maya the way you can embed Internet explorer, or Excel, or Word.
Yup, you're right. You won't be able to bring up Maya UI using MLibrary.
Still you raise a good point. I had used MLibrary in the past to make unit tests but hadn't thought about using it to embed stuff, which is odd, because that is why it exists. I will think about it more, there might be a way to get it to suit my needs.
