Eps2Soft error

When attampting to import an EPS file using Eps2Soft, I get the following error:

*cannot read effect object file

Anyone got any idea what is causing this?

If you have access to the program that saved the EPS, try saving it out again, but as an older eps version. (if you have that option) Better yet, try saving an .AI file (again the oldest version your software will allow) and try importing it again.

If that does not work, chose the next oldest format your software will export. I believe that the eps2soft converter was written a long time ago, thus newer eps files are not compatible with it.

To add to Ed's information:
I have lots of success with .ai (illustrator files). If you can't get your original format into Illustrator, the later versions of illustrator support .dxf.

If you need to join curves in illustrator, you can use the right arrow at the top and select two verticies then use (Join) to link them together. Continue all the way around the shape. The last two verticies to be joined will close the object.

I tried saving an ESP and AI file out from Illustrator in the oldest format available and Eps2Soft still crashes. Thanks for the help anyway (I've still got to try the DXF route).
