Euler Angle For Vertex Normal Direction

Hi all,

I need to get euler angle for vertex normal direction in maya. I try to do it, but without results.
As I understand I should calculate angle between 2 vectors (normal and other?) and convert radians to degrees.
Could somebody help me?

Alex

You cant really do it unless you have some outer constraints such as rotational comparasiion to up and a plane, wich is why you dont usually tell normals in Euler angles.

So in way you can construction a rotation TO the same direction, but not the rotation that the direction describes as theres a unlimited amount of different euler rotations for the same solution. (a single vector does not describe the rotation around the normals direction). However since the situation is a bit artificial you can make it very anticiable

You can also construct a euler rotation form 2 vectors that dont point the same way. By making them matrices.

So in the end theres 2 ways of thinking it.

This all said however if you just wish to align stuff onj surfaces via scripts maya knows how to resolve this automatically for you.

*normals are neither vectors nor points so they cant be rotated as such without breaking things. Or freezing nimals form transforming by geometry shape.
