If you don't want to use a commercial converter (DeepExploration is good), you can always open the rgb image with fcheck, save as jpg and correct the vrml code with your corrected image name.
You may have to remove the line giving values to the diffuse channel, as some vrml browsers don't accept to have both a difuse value and an image texture.
Nevertheless, I would recommend you to invest in a converter as the vrml code produced by Maya is far from being optimised (multiple "Shape" nodes, stupid hierarchy --> material, then object, then texture, then ... which object has which material which itself has which texture
).

can you suggest a converter, or editor for the mac? Chisel? this is my first project using vrml.
I have a copy of VPC, so I could just get VRMLpad and DE
