Hello everyone.

I've recently upgraded to Maya 2018 and will need to update all my assets to work with the Arnold Renderer, so I'm building aistandard shaders for everything.

However, I also need to be able to export those assets to OBJ or FBX formats so that I can share them with other departments and third party contractors. The export plugins don't seem to want to work well, if at all, with the Arnold shaders. I don't remember having this issue with Mental Ray. The only thing I can think to do is to create two versions of my assets, one for rendering and one with Maya Standard shaders for export.

Am I missing something here? Will I need to create two versions of every asset in my library along with building every shading network twice? That hardly seems like the most efficient solution.

Hoping someone here has a good suggestion because this has me a bit stumped.

Sincerely,

Charles
