Hey everyone,
I have been a Maya user from back before it was even called maya (Power Animator). Anyway... I always wanted to be able to actually get some of my models off the screen and into real life... Not digital, not film, but in real honest to goodness hold it in your hand and touch it 3D.
Well I just so happened to come across the opportunity to make it happen.... I recently purchased a CNC Milling machine. And i now have the ability to carve just about anything out of anything... from steel to plastic to wood to aluminum, and so on....
Problem is that I have the tools to CREATE the models digitally (maya) and i have the tools to Bring the models to real life, (CNC MILL) But what i need is the ability to get them from my 3D Workstation onto my Desktop that runs the mill.
I was hoping that someone in here has dealt with this before.... I know it can be done from Alias Studio Tools. (the old industrial brother of maya, recently replaced by some other similar autodesk package)
But all my models and experience is in maya.... So i would really like to be able to stick with maya, and just be able to export and transplant my models into something i could use in a CAM (computer aided machining) package to make my model.
I would be glad to offer payment for your assistance in the form of milling of some of your own models on my mill once we get it running. You pay for the materials, and the time and labor will be free of cost to those who play a significant part in making this a reality for all of us.
