Face Patching with Nurbs

I am still working on my first face patch model. I am following this tutorial http://www.highend3d.com/maya/tutorials/patch/.

Please check the pictures and let me know what's wrong. I can't seem to "smooth" out the face. Do I need to add in more isoparms?

Thanks.

well i am not sure how well you followed that tutorial but this tutorial is well documented i might only suggest to try as many times as you can for practice reason
you will get results as far as continuity and tangency issues it will not be smooth from first time you tryed so it takes time to understand the concept and work way around most of the time global stich will heal the wholes and stich edge tool will help to attach with tangent edges of surface
Most important is to rebuild the curves to match parametarization and when applying surface make sure all patches isoparms lign up exactly if not then rebuild surface is usefull in this case
Patch modeling is a painful process as i have gone through that myself so take your time and try to get used to tools and building curves network that will help you to get smooth results
good luck

looking at your images
your curves intersection are not tangent what you can do in this case is to use Project tangent what that will do is it will make your curve tangent with surface so first thing u select curve that is snapped to the surface cv and then select surface and use Project Tangent
you will have to see whether U or V direction and in Attribute editor u can play around with tangency either increase value for better results or decrease
that should fix your problem course your curves are not tangent with surface and that's the results u get
Also where u have curves intersect each other u can use Align Curve u want to use that tool all the time for all your curves first select one curve then select second in the same direction and use tool align curve again u will have to see what results u get and tangency
second thing when u have these two curves intersecting each other u might want to use snap V second curve of the edge curve and move back to it's original place not sure how to explain exactly maybe someone else can explain better then me

Hi Drawallday

As suggested in this tute, Gnomon organic I & II are as good as it gets for NURBs modeling. But you're doing just fine, personally didn't have the patience to follow that tutorial you're linking to. Try that technique of extracting the curves and lofting them, then detaching the surface, another approach is to directly attach the surfaces and detach them where the seam used to be. That will take care of continuity.

Make sure you search the archive on this site too.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, I'll get to it.

According to this Tute http://www.swanimator.com/tipstutorials/pa...hmodelling.htm#

I am not sure where and how to do this... QUOTE: "so unhide the "base" layer, select the base, and make it live" (found near bottom of first head image). I already downloaded and imported the model01.zip head and I couldn't find the "base" Layer. Where is it?

Other than that.. I am redoing the curves that I did for my head model and completely did the "Align Curves" on each curve so it connects well with other curves. I hope that helps.

Thanks

hehe what he means is to unhide layer that's called
BasedModel once unhided select that baseModel and make it live
