Fat Bloke (in progress)

Hi guys,

I built this one today. Let me know what you think so far. I would post the poly cage but its still pretty messy, needs cleaning up. Took the advice from my last post and modelled this from scratch (with the exception of the ear) rather than modifying my last model.

Any comments on form, style or whatever are welcome. I am trying to get age into this model (the guy is probably late 50's, working man). I'm not sure how much detail to model in and how much to leave till texturing.

Regards,

Stuart.

pretty damn nice. It looks like Patrick McNee (of the original Avengers) and Alfred Hitchcock had a lovechild

Wow. VAST improvement Stu. I like it a lot. I really hope you decide to take the texturing to the same level that the model is at. I have no real feedback to give you on this one. I know we cant really see the teeth, but i wanted to remind you to spend the time to model those nicely as well. No-ones mouth is totally perfect, and if you are looking to make this guy look like he's in his 50's his teeth CANT be perfect. Thats just minor though

nice work.

really good looking.
Are you far from asymetrical details modelisation?
Coz it's the only thing that this model needs to get alive.
He's quiet old, so, think about was he was doing in the past, was he drinking, smoking (cigarettes or pipe), etc...
It'll create a sens to the distortions you'll add (That's what Bay says to make a good character !!! for christ sake, Bay!?!).
Good model anyway.

Good point. He does have teeth but they are a full, perfect set. I'll need to smash them up a bit.

Its still symmetrical. I thought that I would wait for some feedback before combining it and working on some assymmetry. As for smoking and drinking, he will be doing both in a little scene I will be starting next year.

To all who have replied, thanks for the feedback so far.

Stuart.

nice one,
1. I think the head is a little long, but if thats how you like it...
2. the space between top of the lip and the nose looks too perfect.
3. if the outter corner of the eye are aged, then the bone above the eye looks abit funny, don't fit very well...

woa..

The shoulders are too high. He still needs to have some amount of neck shown from the side view. The upper eye lids look too thin and tight. You need to work on both eye lid edges a bit more as they usually have a bit more thickness and currently look a bit too thin. I'd add some tighter defintion to some areas where creases usually exist. Bump maps are ok but a few well defined creases won't add that much extra geometry if you do it right.
Looks pretty good.

Fat guys have rolls of fatty tissue on the back of the neck. Unless your going to put shoulder length hair on him to hide the back of the head ... spend as much time detailing the back of the head as you have done with the front.

Other than that ... outstanding job!

excellent

I noticed this on TV just before you posted. There is usually at least one roll right at the angle of the head meeting the neck. I've modelled this in now.

I'll re-post later when I've done more to it. I need to clean it up a bit and then start making blendshapes and texturing.

Thanks for all the comments so far.

nice head,it does look like hitchcock huh?

You should not model the forhead creases, because it wil look as if he is in a constant state of raised eyebrows. Save that for the animation. Like in FF you cold only see the creases when eyebrows were raised. Dont make them permenant.

I need to model in the forehead creases so that the detail is available during deformations. This model will be used for facial animation tests. It is currently in a neutral pose but will later have the effects of facial muscles applied to it.

I think the creases are too straight at the moment but I was more concerned with getting the detail in at this stage and then refining it for different states.
