this model is being used for a memorial at Midway Airport Chicago commemorating the Battle of Midway. I'm looking for any feedback anyone can give me. Tear it up and bash it if you want to, I can handle hard critiques.

Very good model! However, I think the textures are too flat and the lighting is not very good. I'm not sure if you're looking for critiques on this also or just the model. If it's just the model...then I think you've done a very good job, although the front of the ship looks like it has wrinkles or something. I don't have any reference of this ship to judge it by but everything looks pretty well modelled to me.
It looks quite weird, like somewhere in between a battleship and a cruiseship... Did you have any reference pictures for this thing? (Maybe I'm just a whiner and the ship DID look like this but I can hardly believe that)
You should kill the blue in the windows at the top and why is there a brick-like texture on the boat? Doesnt seem to fit it.
Overall, i think the lighting does look pretty good. And to really finish this thing up you shold have a nice bright blue sky...
G'luck man...

This ship was an aircraft carrier in World War 2. It was bombed and sunk at the Battle of Midway. A colleague and I put this together and we used a scale model and blueprints as a reference. I'm not that crazy about the textures myself. And I agree that the blue windows definitely have to go. I really have to learn how to use Specularity Maps. Does anyone know of any good reference on how to use Spec Maps? Thanks for the input. -Pascal3d
These guys have great tutorials on lighting, texturing, etc.
Hi, ok, cool that you modelled it with a blue print...
The use of specular maps is real simple, you just use the texture map you used for color as reference in photoshop and start making the things you want shiny White and the things you want to be dull Black, next thing you save this excellent paintwork youve done as a new file and MMB drag that onto the material and choose specular...
You should start out with a pure black and white (or at least that's what I always do) and then go into doing grey values for more or less shiny...
G'luck man.
