Hi,

I've started doing rendering for an architectural company but the no matter what file format they give me (dxf, 3ds) it's always messed up (triangulated, overlapping polys, etc.) How can I import their meshes with exactly the same wireframe? What's the best format for this task? Is the problem on their part? Thanks.

Did you run Effect/Recompute Normals? This helps.

I've had luck with 3DS. I've had the best luck with Wavefront OBJ files.

I've always had to clean up a little, but for the most part, good results. Try Effect/Cleanup and poly reduction tools to help.

Sorry, I can't help more. I havne't done this in a while.

Thanks. Cleanup works well however I want the exact same coordinates as the original dxf file. Obj's are the best. If only I could export obj's from autocad. Does anybody know a way? Maybe I should find an autocad forum. Thanks.
