Finding Transform Groups

Hi there,

Very new to Maya scripting....

Is there a way to list transform groups? I tried many flags using ls, but none result in what I'm looking for.

techincally there is actually no such thing as a group!
What we call a group is a transform without a parented shape!

you could list all transforms:
and then look if it has a parented shape:

CODE
for ($tr in ls -type "transform")
{
    if (!size(listRelatives("-s",$tr)))
    {
         // we have a group
        print ("$tr: " + $tr + " is a group!\n");
    }
}
