Hey, newbie, just read the following article about how LCDs work and you'll understand.
http://www.dansdata.com/flatscreens.htm
In case you are too lazy to read this great article: you can't use more than 1024x768 on a 15 inch LCD. Anyway, 15 inch are pretty small for 3D. And CRT monitors stilll deliver much better colors. I'd go for a CRT for the next 2-3 years.

I dont think LCD, or plasmadisplays for that matter, are going to feplace the CRT monitors in the near future. CRT monitors have a way to big headstart for this to happen. The colors are better... and yeah LCD screens are pretty much limitted to one resolution.
Anyways ive seen CRT monitors with capability for ridiculously high resolutins (~21 " at 180 PPI). LCD monitors are no match for theese monsters.
I will add that I am using a 22" LCD Apple Cinema Display for Maya with a 3DLabs GVX420 at 1600x1200, and I am very happy with it. I am much happier with that setup than I was with a new 21" Sony GDM-F520.
How did you setup the Apple LCD with 3Dlabs video card? I thought it didn't use the conventional DVI-I or DVI-D formats..... Did you need some kind of converter to make it work?
Thanks..
