This is most likely a rookie mistake as I am new to fluids but I seem to be having a problem with the Fluid Effects Ocean and wakes.
I created an "Ocean" using the fluid effects menu, then applied a few wake emitters to it to try and simulate the small ring disturbances coming off of some dock pylons sticking out of the water. It looks good in the GUI and when playing through the scene it gives the look I want when rendering inside MAYA, but when I batch render it WITHOUT a cache the wakes never generate and when I try to create a cache for the wakes, the ocean surface freaks out and in the spots where the wake emitters are it simply pulls the surface straight up as if it was moving a lump of CVs rather than making the nice dissipating rings that it was making without the cache.
I really need to figure out what I'm doing wrong but my knowledge of fluids is quite limited still. I went through the two Digital Tutors fluids DVDs and I know enough to understand how it works to a degree, you know, enough "to be dangerous" but not enough to solve this problem I'm having.
