Hi,
I'm about to undertake a project which requires a complete CG sequence to be transferred to Film and need advice and direction regarding this process as it is the first for film project which Ive undertaken.
As most of the resource material I've come across deals with film scanning which requires one to composit onto Live plates and output back to Film my main questions are as follows:
If there is no live action plates involved would the CG sequence still need to be rendered out to Cineon file format in Max for compositing in combustion. Or could a linear process be used i.e 32 bit TGAs and the the final composition be rendered out of Combustion as a Cineon stream. In other words am I likely to get lose by starting off with linear colour space?
This brings me to my next question which is If I'm unable to start of with linear colour space how can I best view the CG results out of max on a standard PC monitor and are there any recomndations for a decent monitor? (I apriciate that I will never be able to see the true finnished article until it is projected however I would like it close enough that there are no nasty surprises)
Lastly I presume that as Cineon does not support Alphas and that I need to composit several layers of CG content to acheive the desired finish I would need to do all the compositing in linear and then render out the final stream as a Cineon to finally colour correct the Cineon stream as require using a LUT, ready for transfer to Film?
any help or advice would be apriciated.
Sany
