From 3ds 2009 To 9 / 8

Hello everyone.

I'm taking a 3DS Max class. I got the 2009 version thinking that that's what the professor wanted; turns out he's old-fashioned and wants files to open on his 9 version.

Is there a way for me to 'convert' my 3DS Max 2009 files to 3DS 9 or 8? I know Maya can do it; I hope Max can, too; I don't want my investment to go to waste
