G5 performance issues

I just switched from using Shake on a low-end G4 to a 2Ghz dual G5 and am not seeing major performance improvements. I just time remapped a 1 minute DV clip and it took about an hour to render - anyone have any suggestions to improve my system performance?

Time remapping in shake doesn't take much processor work... I would say a high percentage of your render time is due to disk read/write. That would justify the small difference between a G4 and a G5 system for that process.
Keep in mind that if you're using blending in your remap options, every frame rendered needs to read n frames before and n frames after before computing. Do a simple calculation and you'll notice 1 hour of render for a 1 minute (about 2 seconds per frame) is not that much.

I can almost guarantee that it will be a lack of a memory and cache config .h file, or an incorrectly set up one. Shake really needs it. They reinstalled shake in one of the suites I use and it was running like a dog. It took me ages to realize that my config.h file had been trashed. I was getting what were 6 second frames coming in at 380 seconds!

grab the shake configurator from the tools section if you, like me, are sketchy on what values to put in, but it makes the world of difference.

I figured it out - I was working with Final Cut Pro movie files which were not self-contained... so every time I went through a frame, it took forever to find it. Self-contained Files solved this.
