Get material assigned to selected face

What would be the syntax to get the current selected faces material name?

hmmm.. that command really selects the shaders thats quite cool, but is there another command to just query them?

sets -q ShadingGroupName list whats connected to a material.

listHistory -bf pCube1.f[1]; lists whats connected to the face select the first groupId node as that should be whats connected to your material with listConnections.

never mind. I just mean.. yes of course its "ls -sl"! this simple piece of mel might be the very first thing one learns when starting to deal with mel.
I don't arrogate to say I got just a fraction of your guys mel-knowledge. But this I do know! ;]

changing selection takes time. I always try to avoid this.

you don't have to explain ls -sl. ;] I meant Joojaa. Don't want to take advantage of his kindness, because its interesting but not necessary now.

You can always save the selection and then retrieve it after you've done. If you don't tell anybody, nobody will notice that you are selecting something.

Got help from this page so here something I worked on Python:
obj = cmds.ls("NAME OF THE OBJECT")
allFaces = cmds.polyEvaluate(obj,f=True)
for faces in obj:
#print faces
for face in range(allFaces):
#print face
iteFace = faces+".f["+str(face)+"]"
cmds.select(iteFace)
cmds.hyperShade(smn=True)
material = cmds.ls(sl=True)
origName = material
#print material[0]
if not material[0] in objMaterials:
objMaterials.append(material[0])

Text won't allow indenting but Yeah with that code you get a list of object materials in FBX exports order and the inside the face in allFaces iteration you can get each material per face.
