i am planning to buy compositing software. i am used to work with combustion and nuke, but nuke is much too expensive for me and combustion , well ... the price and features of shake seem unlrivaled. don't know is there anything why i should not buy it ?
Shake is still a good work horse compositor and a great deal for $500. Though just a quick note the cheap version of Shake is mac only. The linux version is still something like 3-4k.

the other question is: i am used to work on windows and have maya and other software running on windows. is it possible to either install windows and linux on one machine, or the other possibility have to computers. with two computers i would like to use both for rendering with maya/mr. is it possible to render on a linux machine via network ?
yea, you can do both. You just need renderfarm management software that works on both platforms.
