Graphic Card Related Problems

I have a AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with 1 GB of Kingston 333 Mhz DDR Memory coupled to a Asus AGP-V8440 Deluxe 128MB GeForce 4 Ti 4400 AGP Card on a Asus A7N8X Motherboard. I am running Maya 4.5 with Windows 2000 SP3. I am facing a lot of Memory Dump and Blue Screen problems. The problem reduces if i set the Color Depth in the display properties to 16 bit but as you all know its not quite an ideal setting to work with. Any solutions would be just great. The same configuration on a Riva TNT M64 AGP card is near non existent which brings me a fair conclusion that the choice of Graphic Card i made could be wrong.

Is this happening outside of Maya ?

-have you tried pulling DDR DIMMS, you may have bad RAM

Thanks for your reply KIWI but i use Kingston Memory so there is so such issue in terms of poor quality memory. I do not face the problem outside Maya, its only while i work; it suddenly snaps into a Blue Screen or better known as Physical Memory Dump. I must inform you that the machine is very fast with work.

Do you get a chance to read a bit of what the blue screen says or do you have Win2k automatically reboot immediately once the dump happens.

I have found that often times bits and pieces of those messages can be very helpful when it comes to properly diagnosing problems.

Also it still COULD most certainly be your RAM. Just because you bought it from a good maker doesn't mean that it is perfect. Also if you installed it yourself did you observe ESD rules and such? Did you take proper precautions before handling and installing it?

I checked asus's website and couldn't find any A7N8X motherboards; so I can only assume this is an nforce2 supporting AGP 8x.
Have you installed nvidia's AGP drivers?
what video drivers are you running with your ti4400?
what is your AGP aperture size set at in the BIOS?
your AGP driving value or rate (not sure exactly what nvidia's BIOS calls this guy)?
do you have video BIOS shadow enabled in the system BIOS? if so disable it
is your memory registered?

Hello

First i must ask all of you for your pardon. I have made a mistake in the model no. of the motherboard. Its a A7V8X. Most of the time i do get a chance to read what is displayed when the blue screen strikes but i have never noted down it down. There are occassions when Windows 2000 just snaps and restarts, then there is a fixed Blue Screen where i can read everything on the screen but its usually just two lines of information and a little bit of what i can remember is "kernel" and the machine does not restart; the reset button has to be used, then there is the Blue Screen which also gives some info and also a Physical Memory Dump on the last line and it starts from 1% and once it reaches 100 % which takes about 30 seconds the machine restarts. Next time i sure will take note of the Blue Screen and let you know. I agree with you on the quality of RAM and my memory is registered. Also my vendor has given me extra Memory Sticks to check but it has not helped. The model No. for my memory is Kingston Value RAM KVR333X64C25/512. Could you be more elaborate on ESD. I do not follows you on that part.

First i must apologise for mentioning the wrong model number for my motherboard. My motherboard is a ASUS A7V8X with the VIA KT400 Chipset. For your information Asus do have a A7N8X which is based on a nForce 2 chipset and its also shown on their website.

I am using the drivers give by Asus and revision is v31.40F. AGP aperture size is set at 32 mb. I don't quite follow what AGP aperture size means. My card is a 128 MB card but my understanding of that setting is whether to use System Memory for AGP requirements which is why i have kept it at a minimum. In fact i shall give you all the info which i have manually set in the BIOS cause the default seting of the BIOS also gave the same problem. These settings i have made have not changed anything as far as stability goes. I cannot find an AGP Drive Strength or Video Bios Shadow option on this motherboard bios though i remember seeing it on other models. Memory Frequency Setting is at 333 Mhz, AGP Capability at 4X, AGP Fast Write ENABLED and Primary VGA Bios on AGP VGA CARD. My memory is registered and the model number is Kingston Value RAM KVR333X64C25/512. Thanks very much for your help and looking forward to your reply.

have you tried popping in an old video card just for kicks?

Yes i have. I plonked in a Riva TNT M64 card and the system is a lot better. I would like to know why the same stability cannot be maintained on a GeForce Ti4400 based card. Though it is a card not qualified by Alias Wavefront it should still work and not give Physical Memory Dumps.

in my experience the bios drivers of the A7V8X arent marture enough... We had few of theese board up to test and we had huge problems all around even just plain installing windows over the net was painfull!

In general what is the story of the functioning of a GeForce 4 Ti 4400 card with maya 4.5 with an AMD Athlon XP and Asus A7V8X mobo? I just can't seem to get it stabilised. In fact i feel the card is a total failure with Maya 4.5 cause Maya runs very well on my A7N266-E but the moment i put in the same GeForce 4 card on the A7N266-E it gives me unending Blue Screens. Any solutions?
