Graphics Tablets

My old college advisor and friend is the demo Monkey for Wacom, I will be beaten if it gets out. I am secretly thinking of buying a Aiptek HyperPen 12" x 9" USB Tablet at an almost $300 savings from Wacom. Anyone have dire warnings or reasons to stick with WACOM instead of spending the $ on other toys?

get wacom!

yup, get a small wacom instead. I had that exact aiptek tablet, and am much happier with a small graphire.

Here's the cons for the aiptek:
1. The tracking is not as fast/precise - you get jagged lines when you want curves.
2. You can't map a button to middle-click. No "eraser" on the back of the pen.
3. The driver has a lot less settings, and I never got a response from support on questions about config.
4. Big tablets really get in the way, I'm happier with a small one that always sits on the desk. I can use it on a whim. The big tablet had to be pulled out, and then sit in my lap, resting against the desk, and blocking the keyboard. If you do tons of drawing it may be different, I use mine in spurts.

pros:
1. It's cheap and basically works, and big - you can really move your arm around.
2. absolutely awesome jinglish in the docs.

  1. why? I mean i use the tablet for all poiting and clicking. I use the mouse on it i use the pen on it... so my wacom allways sits on the desk (its if you get used to working on it there that counts), i never ever take it in my lap!

A graphire isnt as good a s awacom is but yeah a a4-a5 size shoudl be enough for anyone.

I have a 12 x 12 serial intous2 or whatever if anyone wants to buy it haha I HATE the big ones man. Its way too big, gets in the way a lot.
