Hair again and again and again

So, I FG a tarantula I am working on and I have noticed the colour of the hairs don't come through at all, I have short hairs which are a light brown and a few long hairs that are pinkish, but all the hairs come out dark??
I know this has probably been covered alot but I need to know if this is me or the software.

Also I have put up a link to some stuff I have been working on in XSI in the student critique section, if anyone wants see what I have doing that is.

i know that this isn't the solution that you're looking for but.... i ran into the same problem while i was under a deadline... so the only workaround i could figure out was to use exclude the hair from the FG light and included it with its own set of lights to try and match the two... like i said, not the solution you're looking for but if there isn't an alternative and you're dead set on using hair, this is the only solution i could think of.

one other thing... try a combination of FG with a regular light (but remember to exclude all other objects except for the hair from that light or else you'll throw off all of your other settings)... could use a little GI in there if you have the time...

from what i've read... (somebody correct me if i'm wrong)... is that FG is suppose to be used in conjuction with other lights (GI, etc)... and even though it does well by itself in most cases... sometimes it needs a helping hand.

good point about the GI and FG, I am intending to use GI, maybe I should test it with the hair. I though about compositing the hair with normal lights over the fg but only as a last resort. Thanks mental, I'll give it a blast.
