Hardware configuration problems with textures

XSI 2.0.1 crashes everytime I want to add a texture to any object? Is it a hardaware problem?I think so but I can't understand...my hardware spec follow:abit KG7 Raid, AMD 1700XP, WinXP Professional, 512 RAM, HD 60 GB MAXTOR all with an input of 300W.
Somebody told me it could be the voltage, others tho bios, in fact it works better with the first release of the bios... but it's not reliable.
Please Help me I'm working on a fantasy CG cartoon
Thank's

sounds to me that its the problem with your graphic card, since its the graphic card which draws the textures onto your models. are you using the most updated drviers? have you tried the openGL fix thingy from the tools section of this site?

I have the same problem with an AMD machine. Everytime I want to load or display a bitmap texture XSI2 crashes immediately. I use the same graphics card on Intel systems without any problem. XSI1.5 works fine on the AMD and also all other applications.

Strange..... I'm running an AMD machine as well and so far have no problems with XSI's stability.. um..... could it be your chipset? If you are using a Via chipset, you MUST download the latest 4-in-1 drivers, it dramatically improves performance and stability..

Thanks for the tip.

Hi everyone,
My xsi crashes in win nt 4 with sp6a. I have to try out win2000pro.I hope the problem goes...

Hi i am re-posting on this one..I have a dual amd 2000+ on a asus a7m266-d motherboard. 2 gig of ddr ram and a quadro4 750xgl from pny. I guess I can't ask for more. I have the softimage xsi experience cd and have installed the software(ver 2.2)
All works fine except when I take a sphear and give it a phong material and then when I hit the texture image command the software gives a error and exists. I have installed win nt with sp6. This same commands work on my laptop which runs win2000 without sp2, which is also graphic ready so its not the software. Please if anyone could help me out. I have spent a shitload of money on this system and I expect it to do well.

Hi there everyone,
I have been on some other bbs and everyone says win2000 pro will work with xsi2.2 also there is a agp patch for win2000pro on the agp site and it might help. I am doing my sys today and if it works I will post here tommorow.Wish me luck!!!

Hello,
apart from downloading all the latest win patches and using the XSI certified Quadro driver you might also try this:
Now I know it looks a bit stupid and weird but do you have the SI_IMAGE_PATH environment variable set up? This variable actually points to app files that handle different image file formats. It is more of a Mental Ray variable as far as I know, but who knows - it might help you.
p.s. Can the guy with the dual asus/quadro 700 post your experience - I was planning to get a similar box, but your post worried me. BTW - now I work on a ASUS AMD 760 board, single proc and stability is not an issue
