Hi all. First off, I want to say that I have been a long time fan of this site and thumbs up to everyone who contributed to such an amazing community. I have seen some truly remarkable work posted on here and there are so many great tutorials and downloads.
I majored in Film and want to get at least a short movie made to justify the degree. I've been studying Maya for a bit now and I want to take the plunge and have a dedicated PC built. I'm wondering if you good folks could help me out. I have a programming background and know some stuff about the Hardware angle, but I need the help.
Okay, so I want to use Maya 2009, the Adobe Creative Suite 4, ZBrush and probably some composite programs, match moving programs like Boujou and a stiching program for HDR Images.
I put most of my focus on photorealistic images using Mental Ray.
To start off, 64 Bit is a must(I just read that the new Adobe CS4 now is 64 bit compliant, so good timing for me I guess).
Does that new Intel Core i7- 940 processor work well with graphics programs? Or should I play it safe for now and get a dual 64 Bit processor set up going? Should I use an Atholon or Intel dual processors?
I guess I'll go with the PNY Quadro FX 3700 Graphics Card since I've read on here that is the way to go.
Is there multiple versions of Vista 64? Which one would be best.
And should I go with 8 or 16 GB of RAM?
Thanks to all for reading and helping. I look forward to getting some stuff up during the new year and contribute when I can.
