Help completing older python tutorial in 2010

I am trying to do this python tutorial in maya 2010 found on this website http://cgkit.sourceforge.net/maya\_tutorials/intro/. I am trying to complete the 4th one that creates 3d text but I get this error when I enter the code in the python shell # Error: TypeError: Required argument 'name' (pos 1) not found # . When I load it via a .py plugin file it gives a failed to load error. Do I need to update this code in any way? Thanks for any help.

I read back over it and noticed I was trying to load the code as a plugin when I should have been doing so as script. I put the py file with the code in my scripts folder and named it test.py. I am trying to run it via the command pySource test; in the python command line in maya. I am now getting the following error: # Error:   File "", line 2     pySource test;                  ^ SyntaxError: invalid syntax # 
I tried the same method with another code example from the same tutorial and I am getting the same error. Any ideas?

Theres no such thing as pySource. The entire tutorial is obolete as it builds on different python implemnetation tahts really used.

Dont use the tutorial it teaches you nothing. Even tough the python in use does build on the same core idea. Its however completely different in practice. Its not just old its bade on a python plug completely developped by a fifferent crowd.

Aslo not epySource in the demo is MEL not python. And it doent exist its part of the cg toolkit python implemnantation. As such it doent exist anymore.

Anyway the entire tutorial is just as uninformative as well. It teaches you basically nothing of interest. As everything thats there you can echoffrom amya in less thatn teh time it takes you to read the tutorial.

PS: its just not old it predates maya python interface. Ita like finding a tutorial on how to make webpages that pedates any browser.
