I have the same problem (FC5 Maya 8 Quadro 750 XGL), it's becoming quite frustrating.
I've tried what cobrana had suggested;
mv /usr/aw/maya/libgcc_s.so.1 /tmp
mv /usr/aw/maya/libstdc++.so.5.0.6 /tmp
ln -s /lib/libgcc_s.so.1 /usr/aw/maya/lib/libgcc_s.so.1
ln -s /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 /usr/aw/maya//lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.6
ldconfig
but that didn't help.
