hey kiwi!

Hope you don't mind this directed at you, but you seem to be the most tech savy. Anyhow, i looked into "cheap" DV cards to use for viewing my maya animation on a t.v., but mostly they are all for using with a camcorder to P.C. with no video/ t.v. outputs. Specifically, pinnacle systems studio dv 7 and others, all have firewire connections only and no s-video. I don't care about making demo reels at home, i'll go to a editor for that. i just want to see my stuff on t.v. before actually going to tape. thanks for your last reply and time taken to read my questions. Marksas

You don't need a DV card you just need a cheap video capture card.

Check out the Pinnacle Studio AV Version 7 www.pinnaclesys.com

It's about $129 and captures and outputs to composite and s-video.. this is what you need

it is only a capture card. No output to tape feature.

it is only a capture card. No output to tape feature.

Did you read the PDF file? It says you can output to tape. I have to admit that pinnacle is less than verbose on their lower end products.

g

Sorry! :< I went back and read the pdf and it does do output as well. :>
I'm going to order one of these units today since the price is right.

I'll post my impressions in a few days once I get it up and running.

I recently bought a Hollywood DV-Bridge made by Dazzle, and I would recommed it. It has firewire, composite RCA A/V, and S-video connections for both input and output. Here's a good review:
http://www.digitalpostproduction.com/cgi-b...ge/DVBridge.htm

I'm using this to replace my analog DPS EditBay capture card because it took DPS 1.5 years to release an NT driver, and by then I'd already been on W2K for 6 months (DPS is not going to release a W2K or XP driver for the EditBay). The DV-Bridge matches the CCIR-601 720x480 resolution of the EditBay and the image quality is equivalent even with the 5:1 compression ratio, so it can be used to output your reel. I got mine for $240 and of course the software included is junk so I'm using Premiere.

I hear that is acualy a pretty cool option..but again , i'd like to stress my firwire card cost me a mere 70 bucks ! and it works great:)

I think this thread should be titled "I NEED A CHEAP ANALOG VIDEO CARD!"

So what else do you use with the firewire card to get your animations out to vhs tape? Some type of camcorder?

haha oh yea forgot about that part.. acualy I use a DVC PRO deck witha firwire input. or I borrow a camera , i have a lot of freinds with stuff ...
yea so 70 bucks isnt; a better reference
so 70 bucks and freinds with gear is more like it.
