How do i change frame rate?

Hi

I have an animation with lip sync that was done at 24 frames per second in Maya. However, when i render the animation out as an 'avi' to be composited together with the dialogoue track in Premiere Pro, its registring as being 29.97 frames per second in properties, thus throwing out the sync with the dialogue track.

Can anyone show me how to change the frame rate in Maya to 24 fps for the output renders.

Oh wow no one actualy has asked this for ages... anyway thats because maya did only frames and teh avi standard in its infinite wisdom asumed a framerate wrong. nothing wron with maya.

Dont use avis!
Pros of using avis:

Cons of using avis:

• if the renderer crashes you must start again (this is a big deal)
  
• No network render possible (again huge deal)
  
• it is a uncompressed avi so chances are it wont play at its right farmerate even if maya woudl set it wich it does not
  
• because its uncompressed you gain no benefits in diskspace
• compping a avi can be slower especialy since it may deprive paralell processing in cases. Also lookup is definetly slower

Use iff sequences:
Pros:

• multimachin render possible
  
• internal format
  
• non lossy (if diskspace is of issue use pngs as from maya 6, but youll loose z buffesr nd 2d blur data).
  
• can be viewed with fchek as easily as avis
  
• will work well with maya
  
• when you make it intoa movie you can make mutilpe compressions fast
  
• internal renderer will do a iff in anycase, especialy if using pfx
  
• on mentalray renders you may use tiff or tga, but better only to work with one raw format studiowide
  
• easy to retouch file by file

cons very minor:

• many files (damit guys cant you se folders, you can even make this folders autoplay whan rightcliked)

if the extra step is to much to bear make a script to autoconvert (whie your at it generate 10 dfifferent comopressions)

Is your Premiere project set to 24fps? Otherwise there should be a way to tell it what fps to play the clip back in PP.

Well i've saved a 'Playblast' version of my animation and checked its fps in 'Premere' and it registers as being 24 fps. So, i think its got to be a setting in Maya that is causing my full rendered animations to come out as 29 .97 fps.

Also, i have rendered my animation out as a series of jpeg's as well as avi, but they both still register as being 29.97 fps.

Yes and no, thats what we were trying to tell you, theres no setting in maya to govern this! When a avi comes in if it has no specified framerate most software asume its 29.97 fps. Maya will not set this period.

The renderer deals in frames whatever you try to tell it.

So you msut tell the software you imprt it to, to conform to another rate. Chak your manual on this.

Ps and playblast is a totaly differenbt story, you can even set compression on that not on output render tough, not that youd ever want to either, or ever want to render to avi in firstplace for any reason whatsoever.

It works......

I changed the frame rate of the clip in 'Premere Pro' by going to 'File.......Interprit footage' then typing 24 fps.
