How do I polySplit a triangle?

Since the first and last elements of a polySplit must be edges, it seems to me that polySplit can not be used to split a triangle. So how would I do this?

I want to be able to split a triangle based on some percentage of one of its edges (ala the -ep argument of polySplit) and the vertex opposite that edge. What command should I be using instead of polySplit to accomplish this?

Thanks,

well, if you think about it logically, a quad is no different to a triangle in this respect is it? you're wanting to split from an edge to a vertex is all...

A vertex is simply the 0% (or 100%) position on an edge, so you just use polySplit as you would normally...

but now you're probably wondering how to find out which position of the edge (0% or 100%) a particular vertex is? I can't remember off the top of my head (been a while! ) but I seem to remeber it's very straightforward, something like "polyInfo" which list's the triangles vertices in the correct order, and the % postion along the edge is determined by this.

If you do want to know this, I'm pretty sure there are old posts which go into this, if not, there are two MEL scripts on my site that have the code necessary to do this in them (splitByVertex and extrudeEdgeUVs)
