How do I put a picture in maya?

not realy helpfull is it, but... hook up a file texture node... or if you need a image plane. Anyway hit f1 and search for file texture or image plane its explained there.

this forum sucks crap, I finally found out what was wrong, the picture file I was trying to put was corrupt.

I just wanted to make sure I was doing it right, so I check here(since I had followed the tutorials long ago).Maybe someone had had the same problem.
I ask an easy enough,(extremly simple) question, and I just get a bunch of smart ass answers. This is the last time I come to this message board. My experience here will be shared with others who think of coming here.

No i wouldnt go that far its just that your question was a bit wague. Its much more usefull for all parties if you ask something sesific. Than to ask something realy simple.

The problem is that maya is BIG and theres a lot of things that might be overlooked by someone not familliar with the app.

Also I dont think we would have gotten as far as guessing the file is corrupted anyway because theres no way we could know that.

Besides its one of those things on the do it yourself checklist.

No, this forum does not "suck crap", it's nice with lots of nice people ready to use their own time to answer your questions. But as Joojaa points out, you need to be alot more specific. Reading the manuals first is not a bad idea either...

But I must say that some of you were a bit harsh... even the comment from Gmask could be takean as such..- but knowing gmask (atleast virtualy) somehow i doubt that.

Also very simple questions are bad because of anouther reason: They get asked 100 ties a month so most dont bother being nice... I know th frustration hits every niw and then. Sometmise i manage to cencor my stuff , other times i dont!

PS. also never ask anyone to do too much either

Maybe that's one of the reasons we ought to try to set up a nice, hypertext formatted faq with all these super common questions and then just refer to it. It takes the management though...

Yup thats what ive been trying to say for a year and a half now (every 3-5 moths or so!). We could divide the task into sections and then let some pythonscript parse it.

Damn, how could I possibly fail to see that one, its so obvious. I totally suck. Then again, I can read a manual, ask a specific question, and even put a picture in Maya, so I guess I dont suck THAT much.

Lets learn how to use a forum before you judge its value.
secound off ..how dare you get pissed becouse someone mentioned that you should read a manul to fix your rather easy issue.
MAYBE if you'd have explained what you did and what the result was we could have said...
"yea you are doing it right BUT , somthing is wrong with maya or your texture..blah blah blah.."
I don't think it was a corupt file. I think you just didn't know how to do it.
Quit hacking Maya off the web and buy a book.
