How to animate cable wrapping around a drum

Hello again, I am doing an animation of an elevator, and it needs to be detailed. How would i go about animating the elevator's cable wrapping around the drum that is attached to the motor? The elevator will be ascending, so the cable must be animated to wrap around the drum at the same speed the elevator is ascending, so it must be perfectly matched in speed. Someone please help me!

MAke a poly cylinder that approximates the drum. Make a liner curve in uderworld of the cylinder slanetd so it wraps around (google for how to make a helix), now you can animate the winding by moving the ned point in the underworld of the cylinder. Copy the curve on surface and attach it to s straight downward curve and hide the inetrmediate objects. Rince and repeat for the next layer. Done.
