How To Toggle Between Low Poly And High Poly Mode

I am using Maya 6.

Are there any techniques or scripts that allow easier toggling between a low poly model and a high poly model?

Example: I am creating a low poly human figure and I want to keep it a low poly model. When I go into a higher poly res to do some minor detailing, I want to go back to the low poly res without losing the details I've made.

Is there a way you can actually toggle back and forth or completely undo the command (without undo-ing the detailing) and be left with just your low poly res in the end?

I hope I asked This Question Right!

I would appreciate any solution to this problem.

Use smooth proxy (under modeling/polygons). It should fulfill all your needs, although you don

you can also try using the 1,2, and 3 buttons at the top of your keyboard. Those change the quality you see withought affecting the final render.

That would be easy, but I've done some keyboard customizing. Buttons 1, 2, 3,...0 don't do the original commands anymore.

I see what you are saying, but I've come up with a "brainstorm". I'll have to do some script writing - ugh - I need to customize the smooth proxy command.

well ys the most usefull maya buttons wich shouuld not be changed for anything are '

12345 qwerty asfg zxcvb ,. Z cntrl-a cntrl-d cntrl-z space cntrl-space

maybe even h and o, ado control qwert is handy too.

thets about the most usefull default bingings in addition to [ and ] (wich ive needed to rebind becaus etheres no way of typin tehm with my keyboard and cotroll modifer them) then theres the smoothproxy shortcuts wich i needed to redefine also bevcuse of the same reason (the switch form proxy mode to smooth to both, also while ii was at it i conected a way to make them shaded in BOTH modes so thet whan they both are visible the other isnt tough).

Maybe I'm crazy but can't you just select your model and go into the Channel Box to change the settings for the Smooth node?

If you change the Iterations to 0 your model will go back to the Zero level. I usually create a set Driven key for it and make an Attirbute on an S text curve so I can toggle back and forth between them.

I like Smooth Proxy as well but I find this a bit cleaner to work with.
But maybe you're talking about something else that I don't understand. It's happened before!

the toggle is allready built into control+~

theres evan a shortut to the how much you tesselate (look into your hotkey manager). Besides you allways need to work in the smooth proxys.

Dont you guys ever read the manual, and whan you upgrade the whats new section!
