Human head :: needs critique

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a human head for a project, and I need some critique. I'm going for realism, but I'm trying to keep the geometry fairly light. Any critique on what can be improved upon in terms of making it more realistic would be much appreciated. I'm especially interested in hearing from you anatomy experts out there.

The eyes and the ears have been the biggest problems so far. This is a first attempt at a realistic human. Thanks in advance for any advice.

the actual facial features as a whole are too small in proportion to the head size. either scale down the skull neck and jaw or grab the nose mouth and eyes and scale them up. your eyes need more detail, if you really need to spare the poly count, take some out of the ear and add to the eyes.

yeah, I wondered about that, but when I scale either way it looks even more off. I'll work on it.

I do definitely need to rework the eyes though, and reduce the geometry in the ears. Thanks BADcookie.

Here's a hand I modeled today. Crits on it would be welcomed too as it is also my first attempt at a realistic human hand. Thanks in Advance.

Getting there...

...but I would suggest you use either reference photos or good reference drawings on image planes to start with. It's pretty differcult to get it right from scratch. If you are using Maya check out the poly head modelling tutorial at www.thehobbitguy.com

Start with that and then go onto subdivs when you feel the need.

The hand is a good start. A couple of things that I've noticed: watch the size/placement of the thumb and the shape of the fingers.

to give more depth to the eye create a tear ducted an start radiating lines arond the eye so you can build up the eye soket
