I need a hand? WIP

Ah yes, the human hand, how I loathe thee. If this is your first hand, its not a bad model, but there is room to fix it. You have the general shape modeled and that's good. Mainly I think that you need to do some fine tuning with the model especially with how the fingers and thumb connect to the palm and back (of the hand that is).

1. You need to fix the fingers. They look too thin and too straight. You need to have them slanted downwards. Take a look at your own fingers by laying your hand on a flat surface. Note how the tip of your finger is lower in elevation then the knuckle that connects to the base of the hand.

2. Another thing, fix your thumb. It really should be rotated at a 45 degree angle, not 90 degrees. The best thing I can suggest is to create a lattice and rotate lattice points rather then moving and rotating the thumb area polygon vertice by polygon vertice. This is what I would do if I were using Maya. If you're using another program like Max or Lightwave, I'm not sure what the equivalent of a lattice would be.

3. Another thing is that the center of the palm should be pushed inwards a little bit and also rotate the thumb down a little as well (maybe at 30 degrees from its current rotation).

4. Texturing. You need to get rid of those seams. That will break the illusion of reality and make the viewer realize it's just CG.

tnhe main problem as i see it is the straight box layout wich needs to be defined ofre into natural flow of mucles tendons and bones etc.

Okay, I haven't had time to load up Maya yet, so here's an old render hanging around from my third humanoid model ever. Don't have textures built because this was an assignment where only modeling was required.

I'll see about rendering out some new pics later on in the day. Anywho, have a happy 4th of July!
